Mapping UCLA Arts

The prompt “How to represent UCLA Arts community,” is straightforward in it’s premise, as there are multiple ways to represent the arts. I love maps, in fact I cannot stop staring at random cities on google maps, and looking at historical maps on my free time. I chose to represent the arts through this map, where there’s a mix of realism and imaginative mapping as it transitions from UCLA, to Westwood, and Culver City. The map is modeled on a isometric grid.

MethodFor most of the arts buildings on the UCLA campus, most of them were easier to model with a large archive of site photography to reference. Some challenges that occured were low-detailed spots using google earth aerial imagery; a tree blocking details of a building or low-resolution imagery. In this case I would reference photography from the missing perspective. For buildings like the Nimoy Theater, a recently acquired building, I rebuilt the facade in 3D with reference material like architecture plans, along with perspectives using google earth model. This process was done to represent the beautiful Art Deco details as best as possible.
